At great personal risk, rescued Jessie and Bessie Whittle, aged
eleven and thirteen years, respectively, at fire at 2149 third
Avenue, on November 22, 1886. The girls were in an unconscious
condition on the third floor. Ryer covered them with a bed quilt,
and had considerable difficulty infighting his way down-stairs.

At the same fire, rescued, at great personal risk, Mary Adams,
aged fifty years. She was found unconscious in bed on the fourth
floor, and with a broken leg. |
