1790 - 1880

This is just a "general" guide as to the information found on various census lines and their grouping.  There is a more extensive link to this website to assist you, from the Virginia Libraries.    Further explanation can be found at the NARA site.  The New York State information, was added as taken from actual census pages.

New York State Censuses can be found for years 1855 - 1925, which the earlier 

state censuses, gave more family detail than did the early Federal censuses.  Try

using the LDS website  to view the NY State censues.

1890 Census - What Happened    

Quoted from NARA  -  "A fire destroyed many 1890 population and special schedules, and water used to extinguish the blaze damaged many more. As a result, the Government disposed of most schedules."
