COLE  - CONNELL

Franklin1 Cole  was born Canada April 1838.  Franklin died June 17, 1913 Canandaigua, New York, at 75 years of age.

                                  ONTARIO COUNTY JOURNAL

COLE -  The death of Franklin Cole, aged 75 years, occurred at his home on Saltonstall Street on Monday night.  Besides his wife he leaves one son, Herbert Cole of Hopewell, and a daughter, Mrs. Mattie Bird of Academy.  Rev. DeWitt S. Hooker officiated at the funeral services on Wednesday. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery. His body was interred 1913 Canandaigua, New York, Woodlawn Cemetery.

He married Joanna Goldsmith who was born Canada May 21, 1848.  Joanna was the daughter of John Goldsmith and Audrey Tuttle.  Joanna died April 11, 1920 Canandaigua, New York, at 71 years of age.

COLE -  Mrs. Joanna Cole, aged 71 years, passed away at her home on Bristol Street, on Sunday following a long illness. She leaves one son, Herbert Cole, of Hopewell, one daughter, Mrs. Curtis Burd, of Academy, one brother, George C. Goldsmith, of Rochester, and one sister, Mrs. Eliza Burd of Academy. Rev. Livingston L. Taylor officiated at the funeral services on Tuesday. Interment in Woodlawn.

                     Her body was interred 1920 Canandaigua, New York, Woodlawn Cemetery.

 

Herbert Stinson2 Cole   was born in Picton, Prince Edward Co., Canada March 19, 1871.  Herbert died 1953 at 82 years of age.  His body was interred 1953 Canandaigua, New York, Woodlawn Cemetery.  Section 11.

                      He married Mary Elizabeth VanGelder Canandaigua, New York, August 24, 1898.[i] [i]. City Clerk office record number 991.

                        ONTARIO COUNTY TIMES JOURNAL Fri. August 20, 1948 

                              Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Cole, Chapin, Married 50 Years 

Mr. and Mrs. Herbert S. Cole, well known residents of Chapin, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday at their home. A large group of friends are expected to greet the couple during an open house in the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Cole were married at the Methodist parsonage in Canandaigua on August 24, 1898, by Rev. D. D. Campbell, pastor of the church. Miss Helen VanGelder, now Mrs. Arthur Andrews, was her sister's attendant. Albert H. Winter was best man.

 Mrs. Cole was the former Miss Mary E. VanGelder, member of an old pioneer Ontario county family. Her father was George B. VanGelder, son of Alfred and Mary Jane VanGelder, pioneer settlers in the Chapin area. Mr. and Mrs. Cole have spent their whole lives in the vicinity of Chapin. They have three children, Mrs. Madeline Hathaway, who resides at home, Mrs. Arthur Middlebrook, Chapin Street, Canandaigua, and George D. Cole of Clifton Springs.

 At Canandaigua, August 24, 1898, Herbert C. Cole and Miss Marguerite VanGelder, both of Canandaigua.  

Mary Elizabeth VanGelder -   Mary was born in Richmond, New York July 08, 1880.  Mary was the daughter of George Byron VanGelder and Elizabeth Ann Wheatley.  Mary died October 11, 1960 Canandaigua, New York, at 80 years of age.

CANANDAIGUA An 80 year old Chapin woman died suddenly at 5 PM yesterday of a heart attack while riding in a car with her daughter on Main Street here.   Mrs. Mary E. Cole was taken to Thompson Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. She was a lifelong resident of the area. Mrs. Cole was riding with her daughter, Mrs. Murray Hathaway of Chapin, with whom she had resided.  Mrs. Cole was the widow of Herbert S. Cole who died here in 1952.

She was born in Canandaigua on July 8, 1880, a daughter of George and Elizabeth Wheatley VanGelder. She was a member of Manchester Methodist Church and the WRC.

Surviving besides Mrs. Hathaway is another daughter, Mrs. Arthur Middlebrook of Canandaigua, and one son, George Cole of Clifton Springs, also a brother, Louis VanGelder, and a sister, Mrs. Arthur Andrews, both of Canandaigua, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  Funeral arrangements were incomplete last night.  

                                                                         Mrs. Herbert T. Cole

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Cole, 80, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon while riding in a car on Main Street with her daughter, Mrs. Murray Hathaway of Chapin with whom she lived. She was taken to Thompson Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.  A lifelong resident of this area, she was born in the town of Richmond, July 8, 1880, a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Wheatley VanGelder.

She was the widow of Herbert S. Cole, who died in 1952. She was a member of the Manchester Methodist Church, the Women's Benefit Corps, the Community Garden Club, and Pioneer Club.  

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hathaway and Mrs. Arthur Middlebrook of Canandaigua, a son, George D. Cole of Clifton Springs, two brothers, Louis VanGelder and David VanGelder, and a sister, Mrs. Arthur Andrews, all of Canandaigua RD, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

              Her body was interred 1960 Canandaigua, New York, Woodlawn Cemetery.  

George D. Cole  was born Hopewell, New York April 09, 1901.  George died August 1968 Clifton Springs, New York, at 67 years of age

                                   He married Irma Alice Witter Canandaigua, New York, October 07, 1922.

                                               MARRIAGE        COLE - WITTER

George D. Cole and Miss Irma Alice Witter, both of this city, were married at the Methodist parsonage, Main Street North, on Saturday afternoon, Rev. Stephen S. Pratt performed the ceremony. They were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Arthur C. Middlebrook, of Canandaigua. Mr. and Mrs. Cole are residing in Geneva.  

                     Irma Alice Witter was born July 22, 1903.  Irma died November 1982 Shortsville, New York, at 79 years of age.

 

Bertha N. Cole  was born Canandaigua, New York February 23, 1903.[i]  Bertha died May 11, 2001 Canandaigua, New York, at 98 years of age.  [i]. Canandaigua City Clerk office record number 1973.

                                           Loving Mother and Grandma     CANANDAIGUA, NY 

Bertha C. Middlebrook of Chapin Street, passed away May 11, 2001 at F. F. Thompson Hospital.  She was 98.  She was a lifelong resident of Canandaigua and a graduate of Shortsville High School. Bertha was employed at I. Miller Corset Company in Canandaigua and she was a machine operator for Lewis VanGelder.  She was a loving grandma for many newborns and small children and worked for many families in the Canandaigua area.  Bertha was a member of the Shortsville Rebekah Lodge for more than 50 years, and a member of the United Church since 1932.

She is survived by a daughter, Jean E. Middlebrook of Canandaigua, Beacher children, Roy, Nancy and Ross Beacher of Canandaigua, Douglas Beacher of Canandaigua, Helen Akins of Illinois, and May Forsythe of Florida, sister in law, Gladys Murray of Rushville, one uncle, David VanGelder of Canandaigua, one niece, Dorothy Cole of Shortsville, grandniece, Cindy Gershbach of Shortsville, grandnephew, Keith Hardy of Shortsville, and many cousins.  Burial in Woodlawn. 

James A.1 Collins   

He married Mary M. VanDenbergh Howard City, Michigan, June 09, 1886.  Mary was born East Bloomfield, New York December 15, 1859.  Mary was the daughter of Jacob VanDenbergh and Mary Jane Paddock.  Mary died January 21, 1936 in Otsego, Michigan, at 76 years of age.

                                                         OBITUARY  -   COLLINS 

 Mrs. Mary N. VanDenbergh Collins, passed away at her home on West Orleans Street, Otsego, Michigan, January 21, 1936, after an illness of several months.  She was born near East Bloomfield, NY, December 15, 1859, and when 20 years of age went to Howard City, Michigan to join her brothers.  

On June 9, 1886 she was married to James A. Collins, and in 1910 they moved to Otsego, where Mr. Collins has since been engaged in the mercantile business. Mrs. Collins was socially prominent, being a member of the Congregational Church, the Eastern Star, and the 4 by 4 club. 

The surviving relatives, besides the husband, are two daughters, Mrs. J. P. Sanderson of Rochester, NY, and Miss Bertine Collins of Otsego, a son Harry V. Collins of Birmingham, Michigan, and four grandchildren, Miss Estella VanDenbergh and Ray C. VanDenbergh, of Victor, are cousins of the deceased. Funeral services were held at Otsego.  Burial was made in Howard City.

Patrick1 Connell was born Ireland 1842.  Patrick died April 24, 1910 Canandaigua, New York, at 67 years of age.

                                    OBIT -  DEATH of PATRICK CONNELL

Following several years of illness, death came to Patrick Connell, a long time and respected resident of Canandaigua, on Sunday. Born in Ireland 68 years ago, he came to Canandaigua when a young man and this place had been his home for a half century.

Besides his wife, Catherine, he is survived by one son and five daughters, Thomas F. Connell, of this village, Mrs. Thomas Walsh, of Tarrytown, Mrs. Bernard McGregan, of Ovid, Mrs. George Madden of Clifton Springs, Mrs. Peter Smith, of Seneca Falls, and Mrs. Maurice Breen, of this village.

                 Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Church on Wednesday morning, and burial in Calvary Cemetery.

He married Catherine Mahoney USA, 1868. Catherine was born Ireland 1835.  Catherine died August 25, 1919 Canandaigua, New York, at 84 years of age.

 The death of Mrs. Catherine Connell, aged 79 years, occurred at her home on Saltonstall Street on Monday. There survive four daughters and a son, Mrs. Bernard McGuigan of Willard, Mrs. George Madden of Clifton Springs, Mrs. Maurice Breen, and Mrs. Lauraine Smith of Canandaigua, son Thomas Connell of Rochester, and a sister, Mrs. Ellen Mahoney of Canandaigua.

                    Funeral services held at St. Mary's church on Wednesday, and interment at Calvary Cemetery.

Patrick Connell and Catherine Mahoney had the following children:

Nettie Elizabeth Connell  was born Canandaigua, New York 1873.  She married Maurice Breen Canandaigua, New York, May 17, 1909.

At St. Mary's Church at five o'clock on Monday afternoon the marriage of Maurice Breen and Miss Nettie Connell. The ceremony was performed by Rev. James T. Dougherty and the couple were attended by Michael Breen and Mollie Breen, both of this village, Miss Clara Mahoney played the wedding march.

 Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Connell, Saltonstall Street, which was attended by about 35 relatives of the bride and groom. 

Patrick Hamilton of Littleville, and Mr. and Mrs. George Madden of Clifton Springs were guests at the wedding and reception. The bride and groom will reside at 76 Saltonstall Street. Mr. Breen is connected with Murray Brothers. Witnessed by Michael Breen and Mollie C. Breen.

 At Canandaigua, May 25, 1909, Maurice Breen and Miss Nettie Connell, both of Canandaigua.

                        Maurice BreenMaurice was born Hopewell, New York June 1879.  Maurice was the son of Jeremiah Breen and Mary Costello .  Maurice became the father of Robert B. Breen .

 Minnie Connell    was born 1878.  She married George Madden New York City, New York, June 08, 1903.

 At New York City June 8, 1903, George D. Madden and Miss Minnie Connell, both of Clifton Springs.

George was born 1871.  At 33 years of age George became the father of Thomas Madden Canandaigua, New York, October 09, 1904.  George became the father of William Madden 1909.  George became the father of Gordon Madden 1912.

Thomas F.2 Connell  was born 1870.  Thomas died October 30, 1920 Rochester, New York, at 50 years of age.

CONNELL  -    Thomas F. Connell, aged 50 years, formerly of Canandaigua, passed away at his home in Rochester on Friday night. Death was due to a stroke of apoplexy. 

He leaves his widow, Emma McCarthy Connell, five children, Helen, Maynard, Eugene, William and Charles, four sisters, Mrs. Maurice Breen, Mrs. Louraine Smith of Canandaigua, Mrs. George Madden of Clifton Springs, and Mrs. Bernard McGreggan, of Willard. 

      The funeral services were held at Blessed sacrament church, Rochester, on Tuesday with interment at Calvary cemetery.

Roy E. Cook and Corlie King  had the following child:

Glenn King2 Cook  was born Watertown, New York October 15, 1909.  He married Ruth G. Supplee Canandaigua, New York, June 21, 1931.  Clergyman was S. G. Houghton, Canandaigua. Witnesses were Mrs. S. G. Houghton  and Robert S. Houghton.

Ruth G. Supplee - Ruth was born Canandaigua, New York January 20, 1911. She was the daughter of George A. Supplee and May Palmer .
