Diary of Dell Morse- written in 1869,
Cleveland, Oswego County, NY

Many thanks to Kiely Malone for submitting and transcribing this wonderful historical and interesting diary of Dell Morse from Cleveland, NY.  It gives an insight into a young girl's life just a few years after the Civil War. A number of names are mentioned throughout and perhaps you'll find mention of your ancestors.

I am submitting the diary of Dell Morse- written in 1869, a young girl whom lived in Cleveland, Oswego County, NY. Two diaries were found hidden in the walls of my grandmother's home when we were redoing an upstairs bedroom. So there is no doubt in my mind that the particular room we were doing was this young girls bedroom. I hope everyone enjoys this because it really is a treasure from yesterday. I am going to use the exact spelling that is within the diary because it adds to the character of it and some words have faded over the course of the past 132 years so I will draw lines in to represent those words which can not be read.
I will send it in months so there will be 12 parts to this series.  The Lana Bell in the diary died on 10 Aug 1869. The parents of Lana Margaret Bell were Daniel and Catherine Hilts Bell.    Thank you, Carol Grainger: Surnames researching are Hilts and Hiltz Cousins.
